yommy is a local-first food log published by Great Ordinary. This policy explains what yommy handles when you use the iOS app and its nutrition-estimation service.

Information yommy handles

Meal data on your device

Your meal photos, descriptions, dates, meal labels, nutrition values, edits, and history are stored locally on your device. yommy does not maintain a cloud copy of your food log. Exports and restores happen only when you choose them.

Data used for nutrition estimates

When you request an estimate, yommy sends the photo and/or description you selected to yommy’s Cloudflare service, which sends the content needed for the estimate to OpenAI. The service does not store your photo or description. It temporarily caches the completed nutrition estimate for up to 24 hours so your phone can recover it if the original response is interrupted.

Common-food searches

When you search yommy’s common-food catalog, yommy sends the search text to its Cloudflare service and returns matching nutrition records derived from USDA FoodData Central. Search text is used to answer that request and is not stored in yommy’s database or written to application logs. Manual meals and selected food amounts remain on your device.

Security, usage, and purchase data

yommy processes pseudonymous installation identifiers, Apple App Attest keys and counters, short-lived session records, request counts, and basic operational logs to secure the service and prevent abuse. For subscriptions, yommy processes App Store transaction identifiers, product and status information, purchase and expiration dates, and a pseudonymous app-account token. yommy does not require a yommy account.

How information is used

• Provide nutrition estimates, common-food search, and subscription features.
• Protect the service, enforce usage limits, and diagnose failures.
• Verify purchases and respond to App Store subscription changes.

Service providers

yommy uses Cloudflare for API hosting, security, and its common-food catalog; USDA FoodData Central as the source of common-food nutrition records; OpenAI for nutrition estimation; and Apple for app distribution, App Attest, and in-app purchases. These providers process information on yommy’s behalf or under their own terms where applicable. yommy does not sell personal information or use meal data for advertising.

Retention and control

Local meal data remains on your device until you edit, delete, restore, or remove it. yommy’s Cloudflare service does not persist estimate photos or descriptions in its database. A completed nutrition estimate may be cached by Cloudflare for up to 24 hours solely to recover an interrupted response, after which it expires automatically. yommy configures OpenAI’s Responses API not to store the generated response for later retrieval as application state.

OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default unless the API customer opts in. Under OpenAI’s standard API data controls, estimate inputs, outputs, and related metadata may still be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, or longer when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect OpenAI’s services or others. OpenAI also scans image inputs for child-safety content; an image flagged as potentially matching that content may be retained for manual review. See OpenAI’s data controls for current details.

Security, usage, and subscription records are kept only as reasonably needed to operate, protect, and account for the service.

You can delete individual meals in yommy, remove all local app data by deleting the app, and manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account. Because yommy has no user account, deleting the app does not automatically identify pseudonymous server records as yours.

Children

yommy is not directed to children under 13, and Great Ordinary does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
